Depends on what type of roos. I'll be honest -- I'd be looking either for Orpingtons, EE or Marans for the girls or dual purpose for my table.

I've got a bunch of roos going to freezer camp in the next few weeks and am more than happy to take roos off people's hands.

Nice! I'm very interested to see how my Marans do. They're the only ones I got locally at 3 days old from a lady down South of Missoula who raises ridiculously expensive birdies... imports from the UK and such. Very cool, but I just don't have the money to do that! Hahaha.

I will have kids early November

and I do have one 1/2 Nigerian 1/2 Myotonic (fainter) we've been considering selling. She's hilarious, but the other goats *know* that she's different and they try to pick on her, but being half meat breed, she's okay

If you want any Muskovies, let me know

My friend in CdA, ID has a bunch of ducklings she wants to send my way

hi, you are not to far from me. I live in Potomac, 30 miles east of Missoula. You must be in the Frenchtown area? We used to live over there before we moved out here to Potomac.

Hey Sandy! We need to get together sometime. Maybe in Missoula?

Sounds good message me and we can meet sometime!

Great, we all should meet in Missoula for a chick's coffee time! LOL

I agree! That would be fabulous! I mention Liquid Planet because I can get some tea and you all can get your chosen beverage and we can talk chickens!

Hi!

I live in Great Falls...I have yet to get my flock. I did put an intro page in the new members area.

I am excited there are so many of "us" in Montana! I didn't read all of the posts, but, I will get to when I have household stuff done!

I am looking for local breeders who might want to sell some day-old hens. I am looking for a dozen. I used the breed selector and found what might work for us (since I have two boys, I want a really tame breed.)

Ameraucana
Araucana
Brahma
Buckeye
Chantecler
Dominique
Easter Eggers
La Fleche
Rhode Island

Anyhow, I better get going, or I will be on here all day!

Let's see. I have EEs and RIRs from the list. If you want a REALLY tame breed, check out Buff Orpingtons (or any Orpington, for that matter). Sweet and docile. A little nutty, but definitely a cool bird. Some of these breeds are pretty rare in Montana. You're most likely to find Brahmas EEs and RIRs on your list.

RIRs can be a bit grumpy. EEs have really sweet personalities, especially after they lay eggs. Come to think of it, almost all my hens became more friendly when they started laying, except one of the barred rocks. Watcher is as sweet as could be but Enforcer is psycho-broody while laying.

My own birds consist of EEs, RIRs, BRs, Black Sex Link (BSL), Gold Sex Links (GSL), EEs, BOs, BBS (Blue/black/splash orpington), and BCM/BLCM (Black/Blue Copper Marans). Of these, the marans and the BBS are probably more difficult to find.

I'd say the most friendly as chicks are the buff orpingtons.

Hey welcome! I was just in Great Falls for the first time the weekend of October 2nd for the Poultry Exposition. Great place! I was glad that I finally made it over. I'll have Araucana chicks to sell, the real deal, next spring if you're still interested. Right now everyone's free ranging together for the winter so I can't really tell what type of half breeds would hatch out the eggs, but I'll break 'em all down into their breeding tractors first of 2011.
Sounds like such fun, getting started and searching for your perfect flock.

ETA: Oh yeah, I'm near Hamilton.
