Hello,

One of my Golden Comet chicks appears to be in distress. She is roughly a month old, and is chirping at a constant rate, with much of her body moving at the same time as the chirp (almost as if she was hiccuping), with her eyes closed often. Her mouth appears to be constantly moving, and every once and awhile she will give a large squawk as well.

She is in with three other chicks, with plentiful food and water (and heat lamp) and is the smallest of the lot. She appears to be acting relatively normal otherwise. Took her out of enclosure and held her, tried to hand feed & water with no real success. Looking for any ideas and solutions.

Not the greatest video, my apologies.

Thanks!

Sorry about your baby chick. Do you have any Poultry NutriDrench to give her a couple of drops orally, or and electrolytes for the water? Try dipping her beak for a half second into water to get her to drink and swallow. She looks pretty weak and stressed in the video. Look her over for any puffy areas on her body that might be air trapped under the skin. Is there food or anything felt in her crop, in the right upper chest? Sometimes chicks chicks will eat bedding and it can cause an impaction. Also check it’s vent area for any stuck poop or pasty butt. How do her poops look—any runny poops or blood?
