Monthly Grocery Budget.

We have a family of 4. 2 adults, and a 3 and 6 yr old. Our grocery bill is about $250 a month. This includes dog food, bathroom and laundry needs. We also shop Aldi's. For anyone that knows Aldi, it's the cheapest store i've known yet. We plan meals every week, and shop according to the menu. If there are leftovers, they get put in individual containers and used for lunches or "freezer meal day". Almost everything is homemade, pizza, pierogies, lasagna, chili.Any veggy scraps go to the chickens, anything left on plates, go to the dogs the next day. We do have the iccasional mcdonalds or burger king, but thats not considered as part of the groceries.

Thanks so much donrea for the lasagna recipe it was amazing and way to much lol. I made only one thankfully. It makes almost four meals for us. We eat very small portions. A pound of meat still leaves extra normally for us so it went even further this way. We having again tomorrow night them i am freezing some for my husbands lunches.

Here is a good recipe that we make often and it makes 2-3 meals for us.

Southwest Chicken (crockpot)

3-4 large chicken breasts boneless skinless (I have made with thighs as well and it is good too)
1 can black beans
1 can great northern beans
1 (15 oz) jar of salsa or (12 oz) Ro Tel
1 (15 oz) tomato sauce

throw it all in crockpot (do not drain beans) no need to add spices if you like extra hot you can add hot sauce.
cook 7-8 hours on high stir and the chicken will all break apart

We usually make rice and pour it over the rice. You can eat it like stew as well.

So far everyone I have made it for including kids have loved it.
Hope you enjoy.

I need to get my totals from the last few days and add them up. Honey was at a small independent market in a little town and they had a good sale on burger, so he brought home 25lbs

. That's a lot, even for us. Since I'd thought I had meatloaves in the freezer and didn't, I decided to make some up today. I make a bacon, Swiss and mushroom meatloaf. Had everything but the shrooms, so I made a run to the little produce stand. They had the 8oz packages of sliced mushrooms close dated and on sale for $0.79 each, so I bought four. We're going to a friend's house for a birthday party tonight and I'm bringing salad, so picked up some salad fixings also. Just decided to pop on for a minute to take a break from making meatloaves. Meatballs are next on the list, then a bunch of Mexican and Italian seasoned cooked ground beef.

Must have been the day for making stuff up ahead of time.

We made meatloaf and meatballs today too! Not with 25 lbs. of burger but still a pretty good size package for us.

I baked up 4 huge chicken breasts and shredded the meat into 3 freezer bags, that will make some nice meals for us (and the messy part is done). I'm thinking chicken enchiladas one night, DH wants chicken salad for his lunches and maybe make up some soup with the rest.

Getting that prep stuff out of the way sure speeds up getting dinner on the table.
