Sadly, though, once they retire from the glamorous life, they do very little to earn their keep. Well, except basic grounds-maintenance:

Good Lord! I need me one of those!

Actually, I need me two of those... a John Deere and a big black poodle to drive it

My parents love poodles. They would love that picture. Can I email it to them?

I agree, bartering is fun. I took some excess greens (ruby troutback lettuce, and four seasons lettuce) into my local health food store. I thought I'd give it away rather than have it go to waste. (I only have 2 chickens at present, they can't eat that much) I was astonished when she traded me $5lb for them! I ended up walking out with a big jug of 7th Generation Laundry soap. Felt pretty proud of myself too!

I'd barter just about anything for coffee, so hey, if the coffee guy will take eggs, I'd still feel pretty darn virtuous.

That's a good story, paisleycj. Extra lettuce for earth-friendly laundry soap is always nice

Hey, I wanted to put here that we just had some organic multi-color popcorn, made the old fashioned way, oil in a pan on the stove. The popcorn came from Azure Standard and was grown just across the valley from me. The kids went crazy for it. It was DELICIOUS!

Forget that over-priced cruddy microwave popcorn :|
