I was going to buy chicks from a breeder. We drove an hour out. There was quite a bit of drama on her end and she asked us to come back. Fair enough. Strange lady but okay. We rescheduled.
I did some digging. I was unsure about doing business after that. She had 4.5 star rating but recent month 3 reviews were cautioning to stay away saying her flock had mycoplasma, and that their flocks had been infected. I reached out to one of them (thanks to social media). I was recommended to cancel the appointment. We did cancel.
Who regulates this?
Why is she allowed to still sell?
One of the people on her reviews said she refuses to cull her flock. All had necropsy done and one person posted reports.

Thank you.

I had a similar issue last year (with someone here on BYC, no less). All my birds were infected with MG, forcing me to stop breeding and close my flock. Unfortunately, the only regulation for poultry breeders that I know of is NPIP, which is voluntary. I was initially under the impression that MG is part of NPIP testing, but have gotten conflicting answers on that since. It seems to me that it should be. Glad you caught this before purchasing anything from her.

Way too many flags to risk my girls. It has definitely re enforced my beliefs on a closed flock.
Is there no governing body to consult? Agricultural department?

So glad you were able to cancel!

I do not know all the rules when it comes to selling and such but I guess that’s why people choose to go on site to look at the parent stock and get a feel if they’re healthy if they know what to look for.
