WOW, even MPC jumped in. I'm really impressed with them. And also glad to know that they won't be selling debeaked pullets.
LittleChickenRacingTeam: Thank you for your concern that we haven't done our homework. I know what you mean about people not being prepared to be pet/animal owners. I was just thrown for a loop yesterday because I had been thinking about waiting at least a WEEK or maybe another month. We have read and read and studied chicken care - all that's lacking is the actual hands on experience. I do feel the weight of taking on responsibility for living things and don't want to mess up.
TSC didn't have chicks last night, but I got a line on another feed store that might have them. We now have feeder, waterer, chick starter feed, bedding and like I said before two brooders. I think I need a larger lightbulb for out in the garage. It's a cold place and I don't think that 100watts from 4 feet up will be enough heat for little chicks. We'll start them in the laundry room where we can keep a closer eye on them.
Again, I want to thank everyone for your encouragement. This website has been so wonderful to come to. I'll let you know what happens over in raising baby chicks when we get them. Thank you!
