More BBS orpingtons in my 'bator... Splash Magic - Photos

I'd have roos if my neighbors weren't....

Anyway, I know what you mean, I have chickens so that we can eat GOOD food, no need to pump them with all the crap that a battery does. Kinda defeats the purpose. I'm liking hatching eggs at this point, so I'm hoping to find some "good eggs" at the swap

It is a bigger risk and more work to hatch your own but I prefer it. I hope you do find some eggs. I won't have any until fall.

MissPrissy and I are on the same page here! The only difference is that I do feed starter with amprolium because of my soupy atmosphere here and the nasties that are in my soil. My flock is closed, as well. Hawkeye was the only grown bird ever brought here and he was in quarantine for over a month. Thank goodness he didn't have anything-if we had found something during quarantine, he would have been put down immediately, sad as it was. I'm so fortunate that he was an amazing addition to our family for the couple of years I had him. I got an eight week old youngster awhile back as a gift and she was in quarantine as well for a month. Thank goodness, the person who raised her was very careful about hygiene and disease just like me. I have never been to swap or auction, at least not yet and when we come home from the feedstore, we spray our shoes with bleach solution.
In spite of the way I run my flock, I also strongly recommend you quarantine any birds you get from me, too. Something could be starting up with them that even I am not aware of, so it's always a good practice.

The waiting is killing me, Kitty!! Tomorrow is day 21. It seems with my own eggs they pip early day 20 and hatch right on time.

I have 23 eggs due on three different dates, starting the 27th. I dont want to hatch anymore this year! I dont! I'm tired of buying chick starter!

On the bright side, if the splash baby in my brooder is a pullet, I wont feel compelled to hatch anymore this year... and maybe even next year.

You not hatch next year?

I have one hatch left-9 eggs-this year. They are due the 24th! (Helps if I look at the right calendar!) Unless my SIL gets me those Arucanna eggs soon it's going to end up to late. I don't want to have little ones when the cold weather hits here.
