All coops are sold out or like $1,000 for a house and run for 6 chickens. Plus I dont want to spend that much. My mom says get 4 metal stakes, the kind that have little hooks, and kinda wrap chicken wire around it for a run and just lift off a corner to get in...that seems like it would not last, but sure seems easier than constructing a wooden frame and adding wire and a door etc.

That's what Ifigured. Well back to designing, I've spent 3 hours on a blueprint and just realized the size of wood i had wont fit in our car and we love too far for delivery so I have to go back and recalculate the entire thing. I still need to homeschool but we are going to lowes this afternoon.....so stressful!

I agree, chickens will take an investment. Do you have an existing structure, like an old shed or dog house you can repurpose? Also look around the house for unused lumber. I luckily had a lot of pressure treated lumber to make the foundation for the coop and run.

We also had a older playset made of redwood which made great use for the coop. Think out of the box, I'm trying hard to not shop which is taking longer than if I went to HD every other day. Going to the stores is too stressful for me as well...:sick

Your going to have to spend some money to keep your chickens safe. Not only from ground predators but also from owls , hawks and eagles. Depending on how many chickens you get and whether they are bantams or large fowl will make the difference on cost. If you get bantams you could build a frame structure out of 2x2 lumber with a hinged door with lock then staple hardwire cloth around the structure. You could by 1 or 2 sheets of plywood and make a shelter and attach the frame to the shelter. I would also raise the shelter off the ground so you don't have to bend to clean it out. Go on line and get ideas on what you could possibly build with some modifications to keep your budget down. Here are some links to give you ideas.

After my 3 hours of planning and realizing I need to do a total re-do..... I am going with my 6 year old's plans :)

coop first...chickens later...

If your are not willing to do it right the first time, you will be buying new chickens a second time...
I did it all wrong, blaming it on covid. Should be done this weekend. Have to say it's been a lot more fun than the fish pond... Meaning hens before finishing the coop
