I feel that I've got a handle on raising egg layers and now want to add a flock of meat birds.
It seems that everyone in more interested in large breasted breeds but I'm hoping to raise a breed known for ample dark meat.
Any suggestions?

I adore dark meat! It taste so good, I can't believe everyone is into that chewy white stuff! LOL

I find that most of the dual-purpose birds I raise, especially roos, have lots of dark meat, at least when compared to store-bought birds.

Thank you for the replies.
I figured that since some breeds are known for especially large breasts that there may be one known for large thighs (I always have been a leg man

I do love duck meat for certain dishes but chicken is our main source.
I don't use enough duck to warrant raising them.

I haven't raised them myself, but I've seen some pics of Wyandotte cockerel carcasses that have a lot of thigh and leg meat, you might look into them.

I read somewhere that Buckeyes have a good amount of dark meat. Looking at pics of them they seem to have large thighs.
