Oh and back to the OP's question, according to Purina in their nutrition section on BYC it's not possible for a bird to lay 2 eggs so quickly. But I had a white leghorn that did exactly that several times so I know it's possible.

I also have a white leghorn that has on occasion laid two eggs in the same day. Easy to tell as she is my only white egg layer. And yes, I too have put eggs in my pocket and forgotten about them! Luckily with fresh eggs they are easier to clean up than old store bought eggs.

Suppose to take 24 hrs from one egg to the next but when new layers are working on getting the kinks out of their system so anything is possible double yolkers etc. eventually things settle down and they lay normally. When my Buffs started laying both laid double yolkers and huge eggs but it’s been well over a year now since I got a double yolker from either one.

Oh no never ever! Ahem (clearing my throat). But seriously I am glad I came across this thread because my girls have had me perplexed with their laying schedule. It is nice to be able to learn from experienced duck people.

Ok I am having odd egg issues today as well it appears. I have 4 ladies, usually get 4 eggs a day but randomly I will only have 3 and then sometimes I will find another egg later in the run or I won't. This morning I only had 3 and have been out in the run several times today and no additional egg. Until just now, I found 2 eggs next to the waterer in the run. One was perfectly normal and the other was semi-soft in some spots and I could see through some of the shell. Does this mean one has a calcium deficiency? or is it just a random thing during the 1st year of laying? They are fed well. I only went back out there since it was starting to snow and wanted to make sure to close the main door to the house so it stayed dry. Well and to say hi to the duckies again.

Laying a normal egg and then one like you described can be pretty normal during their first year of laying. Just make sure they have best food you can buy and oyster shell for calcium, only time I’d get concerned would be if you begin to see these eggs more often.

Perfect and thank you. They have been laying now for about 3 months and this is the 1st one like that I have seen so I will keep on feeding them good food and snacks. I just ran out of oyster shell but the husband is getting some on the way home. Thank you for your knowledge.

All Birds till the egg machine gets working properly can lay two eggs a day. As long as everything else is fine you have no worries...

One of my Indian Runners laid today and I stuck it in my coat pocket while I cleaned their coop and forgot about it and busted it, nice mess in my pocket!

I've done that too many times trying to multitask. It seems to always be a heavy coat that takes forever to wash and dry.
