I agree with this. There are so many different places someone here could post about a lost/found animal that it would be nearly impossible for both parties to check every place. We also are not allowed to post signs along the streets. If my dogs were lost and someone didn't scan, I could easily never find them.

I might consider keeping it myself, against the law or not. BUt as we all know, actions have consequences.

On the other hand, you could call the owner and say you saw her running down the road, in case he was wondering-and if she does come home again, would he be willing to sell her to you? If he says Yes, then you "could go catch her and pay him". If he says no, you can say, good luck finding your dog.

You know, I've been following this thread for a while and it was cute when you didn't know who the dog belonged to but now I just think it's getting weird and selfish.

If I put my dog in the middle of a circle of exciting, new-smelling strangers and if I wave my hands out to call my dog and the child across from me is waving a steak and calling my dog, my dog will probably go investigate the steak. Does that mean that even for that second that my dog doesn't love me and trust me and want to be with me? No. It means that my dog was checking things out, making friends, having fun.

You yourself said that the dog was in good shape. She's not been chained outside her whole life. She's not been neglected. She obviously has shown manners which means that someone has spent time with her. Just because they weren't ecstatic to see her ... well maybe that 9 year old girl has had her heart broken by her dog running away chasing cats and she's afraid to love the dog as much as she once did, thinking one of these times she might not come back. Have you ever thought of that?

The shelter is full of animals who DO need homes and love. This dog, despite what you might convince yourself of, has a loving home. She's chipped, she wears a collar, she's well fed, she's not mangy or matted. Go adopt a dog that needs a family to save it's life and let these people be happy with their dog. If you really want to do a good thing, volunteer your time to work with the family to help train their dog to not chase cats. I think you're just trying to turn this into a Lifetime movie and it's not. And what you said about never getting another stray scanned? That's disgusting. Think about what you're saying. You're stealing someone's pet.

This must be so hard for you.

I found a dog in a parking lot one winter. She was starving and very cold. I debated whether or not to take her. Maybe her owners were in the store? A friend of mine working there said she had been by the door his whole shift. I decided to take her home to feed her and warm her up. I made tons of calls,(sheriff, Radio station, ....) Then I placed an ad in the local paper. However by the end of the second day I was praying no one would call.

I had fallen in love with Abby. (she had no collar, we named her that) She took to her new name immediately. I got lucky, the owners never called. I had Abby for 7 years. She passed away a year ago in May. I miss her every day. We have dogs now but Abby was MY dog.

She came to me at a very rough time in mine and my sons life. We needed her as much as she needed us. She helped us through and when life got good for us and she knew we were OK she passed on.

I really feel Abby was meant to be with me and I feel like Molly is meant to be with you. I hope it works out that way.

I did call the owners. He was understandably very frustrated that she got out again. He commented several times that he didn't know what to do. I did NOT ask him to give me the dog again, as I am sure that was on his mind as well. I had to leave shortly after she came back, so I left her in the yard, and told him that I could either drop her off later or he could come get her from my yard.

For all you naysayers out there, I leave you with the following quote from post number 42.

why dont you let the owners do the work this time, they have your contact info they know where she probably went. This is their dog, they need to be involved in finding her and not have someone cater to them everytime she gets out which is seems like she has found her way out and will coninue to get out unless they do somthing. Maybe the owner is just as happy saying she is "lost" and not have to do anymore work for her....

well I posted at the same time, its nice that you contacted them again but really they need to do some work and take some responsibility to figure somthing out because its kinda fun that she keeps showing up at your house but what happens when she gets hit by a car while out or the wrong person gets a hold of her.

Years ago there was husky that strayed to my house. It played with my kids, and we loved it. We searched for the owner and found him. The dog was well cared for but didn't get a lot of attention. The dog would dig under the fence to escape. The guy started tying the dog up, but it would slip its collar. Everyday when the dog heard the school bus it would do everything in its power to escape and come see the kids. I begged the guy to let us keep it. He said no because he just loved it so much. He admitted that he never spent time with it, but just knew he should keep it. One day it got out and was caught killing another neighbor's chickens. It was shot. I guess the owner just loved it to death.

sure our dogs would go to a new person, BUT when we called them, they'd be JUST as happy to see us, wagging and all that.

the dog KEEPS getting lose, thats not good for the dog, what if she WERE to get hit?.

I have "stolen" a couple cats before, who belong to really no one, but had someone who ''claimed'' them.

the owners are being stupid by not making sure the dog is properly kept to their property, if the dog is fed,and cared for, not keeping YOUR dog on YOUR property is still against the law.
