Looks like your project is going very well, Corancher!! Those are some gorgeous girls. Nice work!!! Can't wait to see the "finished project" (as if any breeding project is ever finished!)

Jody well put.

I myself do not try to put down peoples birds, but to help one another improve their stock and line. We should all work together to help one another not tear someone down.
I think that splash has almost perfect body type.
Its all about what the breeder wants to do. That is what makes us breeders. I know each line has there certian look. I think Ann is doing such a great job with her birds and every bird I see is so pretty.....well the Splash was handsome LOL. He might get mad if I dont say that

I agree with you both. The splash has great type. I was curious about the obvious yellow beak and where it might of come from. I hope no one took that as tearing him down. That was not why I asked. I ask questions to learn. Since a picture was posted it gave all of us the opportunity to ask questions and hopefully learn what is correct and what is not for that breed.
My mommie always said the only stupid question is the one not asked.

Hugs to all
Kim

Oh man...I sure hope I didn't come off as being argumentative. I was simply caught up in the discussion and thought he was a nice example of a splash roo, thus, I was defending him. sorry!

I think any forum should be a place to learn. I don't think you you were trying to be rude. Just a honest question. Do you raise Orpingtons? We need to all work together to keep breeding to standards. Soon, BYC will have the best Orpingtons around

The Splash rooster was taking away from my special project orpingtons so I thought it best to take the picture off and thus close to book on him. I would like to say that he came from a pure breed pen of orpingtons from which I have been breeding for three-four years. Any throw back would have to go back to Sandhill where I got my original stock. I have found that all kinds of unexpected things can pop up when breeding birds.

I thank everyone for their comments and compliments.

Now everyone please take a look at the silver laced roo on page 1. It is a little hard to see but I couldn't get it to stay still very long. I had three of these birds to hatch (a pullet and two roos)from the pen that contained blue, black, and splash orpingtons. They were completely unexpected. They were black at hatch and started getting the lacing after a few weeks. I have no silver laced birds on the ranch.

Here's my question. Did anyone who got eggs from me in late May or early June get any birds with this coloration? Does anyone have any thoughts on how this happened? Is it possible that the lacing came from the blue orpington over the black?

Just checked those silver laced over. Skin color is white. Shank is black. Bottom of feet kind of white yellowish or grey not pink for sure. I have no idea. I guess I will be greatful because they sure are pretty. I will see if I can get the other two to sit for a photo shoot tomorrow.

Ewesheep I will let Simon know that you liked him.

Katy sorry you didn't get any laced but then you would have wondered what in the world was I sending you.

Very interesting, indeed! I wonder what taking the hen back to the heaviest laced roo would produce? Definitely an experiment I would try. Are they molting yet? That could increase, or decrease the lacing maybe?
I haven't gotten any eggs from you...yet...so I can't answer that question..lol.
