Do you use the bottle caps with the flat part laying against the wood, silver inside part exposed?

Top is out so the little teeth around the edge touch the wood and wire, they grip it all and help hold better than a washer. I will take a pic when I get home tonight.

I started out with poultry staples and really hated them. I then switched to roofing nails and found they held well and were much ezer to hammer. I prefered the 1 1/2" length. Much cheaper then screws and washers and kinder to the thumbs then staples. Just hammer them towards the edge of the 1/2 grid on hardwear cloth and they hold well. With practice I learned to stretch the 1/2" welded wire in place by nailing in a corner at an angle then hammering the nail till it was stright thus putting a little stretch on the mesh. I ran two rows of nails down the 2x4's and 4x4's. It worked for me.

We used screws and 1" washers with 1/2" hardware cloth, worked like a charm for our hands and so far our dogs haven't been able to make a dent in it... though boy have they tried... weekly, daily, hourly.... if a Terrier/Chihuahua mix and two Doxies can't get in, it's secure.
