More than one egg per day???

Glad I found this...I was actually wondering the same thing if it was possible for ducks to lay more than one egg a day. My 3 black Swedish girls started laying last week and I have been finding up to 5 eggs everyday. They are even laying them outside when they are out. Glad I found a post with similar things happening...I was starting to think I was going crazy with there being so may eggs

In my opinion- duck eggs are richer with a bigger yoke. I love baking quiche with them. They are also alkaline vs chicken eggs being acidic so duck eggs are better for people with cancer as well as chicken egg allergies :)

I didn't really think they could possibly lay more than one per day, but they stay in the coop until close to 10:00 am and the coop is only 3'x4'. Once I did find a couple of eggs in the far corner away from the nest, but whenever I don't find any in the nest, I poke around into all the corners to be sure since, yes, they do like to cover them up sometimes. So now my next questions is, exactly HOW do they manage to move them around? Has anyone ever seen their ducks actually moving their eggs? Surely they can't pick them up in their bills. How do you not just love these fascinating creatures!!!

Fünf rolls them with the tip of her bill. Her little bean on the end of the bill seems to be just enough to grab with, and she pulls them toward her.

Thanks for the replies. Since I have so much straw in the coop for cold weather, I suppose they could roll the eggs. I would love to see that happen some time. Ya just gotta love these birds!

And yes, Busymadre, I am enjoying these ducks' eggs so much. So much flavor and some real substance. I made a wonderful quiche once, the omlettes are great, and had two hard boiled for a light supper tonight.

My Saxony routinely lays two a day. no hiding possible in the pen till 10:00, but in the summer she will even lay one in the pool.
My Anconas lay nice little green eggs but not even every day. they will try to hide them in the straw.
