More than one egg per day???

I have two young Ancona ducks who are both laying but not always every day. For about a week there were two eggs every morning in the nest, then there were two days with an empty nest. Today, I went out there to find FIVE eggs in the nest. Can they hold them for more than a day?

I have ducks and from everything I know no they can't lay more then one a day but if I don't find all my duck eggs in the nest they always use I got looking because they will lay somewhere else. I have one that will lay under the ramp to the coop every third day and the other 2 days she will lay in the nest in the coop. They are also known to bury the eggs so sometimes you have to move the bedding in the nest to find the eggs. Ducks like to be difficult when it comes to eggs they want you to go easter egg hunting every morning. LOL

My ducks nest always has around two eggs in it since she hides them well and I can't find them easily. lol

You won't find them very easily. I have found a nest before that has 6 or 7 eggs in it but since I didn't know how long they had been there I got rid of them. i keep track of how many eggs I get a day from them and i just keep a good eye on them so I can caught them coming out of hiding. That is how i started to find the eggs was just watching them.

Oh wow that's a lot!! I wish I found that one day! My duck usually buries her eggs under the straw.

I didn't really think they could possibly lay more than one per day, but they stay in the coop until close to 10:00 am and the coop is only 3'x4'. Once I did find a couple of eggs in the far corner away from the nest, but whenever I don't find any in the nest, I poke around into all the corners to be sure since, yes, they do like to cover them up sometimes. So now my next questions is, exactly HOW do they manage to move them around? Has anyone ever seen their ducks actually moving their eggs? Surely they can't pick them up in their bills. How do you not just love these fascinating creatures!!!

That's a very good question! Hope you find out soon! You should set up a camera or something! lol And lock your coop up so you now noone's messing with you!

My Muscovys are excellent egg hiders, they have deep shaving to lay their egg s in and everyday i go in and stir up that bedding and even doing that i have missed a few and the next day there they are laying next to the ones just laid, so it would be very easy to think they were laying more than one a day but not possible, I just read it takes a chicken 25 hrs to lay one egg I'd think it would be the same for ducks.

When my duck started laying last year there was a few times she laid two eggs in one day. The second one was never hard though and it threw me off since her routine didn't change at all.

The two soft eggs were laid two days apart. I kept them to show her vet but was told that its normal for new layers. Idk.
