What are you guys doing?

Here in SE La it's been rainy every afternoon, our yearly plague of mosquitoes is in full force.

I am spraying the inside of the chicken coops with a citronella product that suppose to repell skeeters and other biting insects. Some what effective not totally but pretty good.

What do you guys do?

I hang an old fashioned bug light zapper up by the rafters. Seems to at least thin the mosquitos a bit and keeps the densest part of the swarm up high by the light. The steady rain of crispy fried bugs is a bonus.

I clear the coop and fog with a commercial Permethrin based Dairy fly spray approved for food areas including poultry weekly if they're really bad. I also make sure the bug light and no other lights are visible from the outside after dusk as this will attract scads of mosquitos.

The light doesn't seem to affect the chickens. After a day or 2 they got used to it and consider it dark in the mild purple glow. Throws enough light to check feeder and pick eggs without disturbing the roost.
