Hi everyone, while our coop is under a tree, the run is in direct sunlight almost all day. With the heat wave we have had, it's been super hot in there. My pullets free range all day but I will begin keeping them in the run till the afternoon as some are close to laying eggs. Any suggestions for what we could drape over one side of the run to provide shade- something breathable that will not make it hotter? Here is a pic of the run. Since picture taken we have trench and screened!

I agree with the others, shade cloth is a great way to go. In my area, the least expensive option is a by-the-yard option at Lowe's. It is much cheaper than buying the precut stuff if you just need a couple of yards.

Shade cloth can help, but it's toss up.
The higher shade percentage, the less air flow.
If you are only covering one side, air flow might not be an issue.
