Most broody breed?

Well my cute idea of getting a hen just for broodiness and hatching may just be an idea and not realistic. I had a bunch of haritage barred rocks that would go brood once upon a time, but i never let them sit... may not be worth my time in the end really...

I'd happily lend you a Silkie. 🤣
Where did you get your Silkies, which hatchery? I assume they are bantam? If bantams are OK with Sniper I could see him ordering some and keeping them until one went broody, then selling the rest. They could try that with any breed. Of course it could take over a year to get the first broody.

I got mine at a feed store. I have no idea which hatchery supplied that store. And, yes, they are bantams. They are tiny! Not even 2lbs each. But I've had them raise all kinds of birds: Orpington, Naked Neck, Spitzhauben, CCL, EE... They co-parented my last batch because they were sharing a nesting box when I brought home the chicks. They're fantastic little birds.

Everyone says that bantam cochins go broody a lot, but out of my experience, my girl (2 years old) has never gone broody before.

Now, my serama on the other hand, she went broody AT LEAST once a week.

I've only had my chickens for 8 months, but my bantam cochins have gone broody many times already. I have 13 females and 5 have been broody. Neither of my silkies have yet but I'm sure it's just a matter of time.
Most recently, one of my black Australorps has been broody.
I would definitely recommend bantam cochins though, they've been the nicest. I'll have to see how mine do with hatching but they're known to be good mothers.

Mine from Ideal and welp are great. 3 of the 4 brooded 2 clutches this year and 2 of those will take any babies I give them. One took babies that hatched for 2 weeks straight with no complaints

My Silkie I had went broody 5 times in 1 year, I rarely got eggs from her. They’re great for that purpose, only issue is that typically they’re not high in the pecking order (obviously every bird is different but generally they’re not) so mine was bullied off of the favoured nesting box which disrupted the eggs a lot

Got mine from From TSC/Hoover's. Mainly standard sized, roosters 4+lbs, & hens 3+lbs. Got one bantam sized hen from Hoover's, she's alittle over 2lbs.
They're broody often.
