There are two old nails in it...one by the "F" and one on your blue egg. I painted that one blue. I was hoping you would think they add to the character.

This week has been great for me for eggs. I began lighting the girls two weeks ago and many are responding. The large light brown eggs are from my 2 yr old black giants. The blue eggs are true araucana pullets and the dark eggs are cuckoo marans, pullets as well. So most of these are first eggs for these girls. I am hoping to see an increase in size from the marans. Their color is good I think, I don't have a marans chart but I think they are dark enough to qualify.

If your girls molted that long ago they are probably ready to lay again and will with some lighting! I use one of those newfangled twisty bulbs designed to work outdoors and it is energy efficient as well.

Even brown eggs can be colorful. The speckled eggs are from my welsummers, next are BAs and lightest are Wyandottes.
