Lucky you!!! Mine have been laying for a year now, and I only get a double yoker once in a while now. The hens are perfectly fine. Just getting the egg laying thing down to perfection. LOL

some of my chickens eggs have had two yolks too. i was surprised at some of them because the eggs looked to small to be two yolks in there

.my chickens were about 5-6months when they started laying. i don't know if it depends on the breed. we have barred rocks and black sex links.

Double yolkers, especially to "old timers" seem to be a "premium" egg...haha

I get asked all the time if my eggs are double yolkers or if I've had any.

With this batch of hens, I do get them often...when I had my 2 RIRs...Marti and Emily from 3 or 4 years ago, we never had one.

It basically means, had you had a hen go broody, you'd have twins...so it's nothing "abnormal" or nutrition gone south or anything.

New layers will sometimes "stutter" a bit, until their cycle gets regular. Also, if you WANT doubleyokers, try using a light 15 hours a day (includes daylight), then suddenly break the cycle. Many birds will "double up" if this happens. Works best in winter when you can control conditions best.
LOL!
