Hi, I’m thinking of hatching some duck eggs when my current hatch of marans is finished, I never hatched ducks before, had a few Muscovy years ago, but otherwise don’t know much about the most popular breeds. I plan on selling them off heat, so suggested breeds would be appreciated.

Since you are in Ireland, maybe look around to see what is popular for there. As well, maybe you want to try a duck breed that is more sought out than popular?
For instance, pekins are very popular because they look like a normal duck that non-duck owners even recognize. Plus they are fat and squishy. They are bred to be a meat bird, but a lot of people like them as pets.
Calll ducks are smaller versions with a big quack (they have more varieties than the white one shown above - so you could try a variety of those).
There are different reasons for owning different ducks.
I have muscovy and I find they are sweet and I like that they are quiet. That is a plus for me. I love my non-quackers.
If I had gone for a domestic mallard based duck. I was looking at the Welsh Harlequin due to their personality as well as their egg laying.
I would also look into success rates for hatching ducks. Ducks in general are harder to hatch than chickens from what I have read.
Goid luck!

Thanks for the info, was just wondering about if some are easier than others to hatch, think I read somewhere that call ducks are difficult, but not sure , any other info appreciated
