Hello. I have a chicken that has been trying to incubate her eggs for 27 days. Sadly her chicks died inside of the eggs. I felt sorry for her and decided to buy a chick for her. Yesterday, very late at night, I had set the chick under her. The next morning I found that she payed no attention to the chick. The hen had not called the chick when she ate and just left the chick in the nest. The wouldn't follow her either. I separated the chick and set up a last minute brooder for it. Should I re-attempt?

I have the opposite problem, my hen really loves the chicks I put under her (from a hatchery) but the chicks won't listen to her really. They do use her for warmth, and they discovered on their own where the food and water is. When momma hen clucks for them to come get treats they all but ignore her and carryout their business. Sometimes I've seen the one investigate but the two of them don't seem phased. Ill let her raise them as long as it is safe
