If a chick is gonna be mottled is the chest always white? Really hoping my chicks will be mottled. Also if a rooster was mottled and lost his mottled would he still be called mottled or split?

No mottled chicks go through many molts, first starting with white on the bottom and black on top, then blotchy black and white on the bottom, then blotchy black and white, and finally mottled.
Your bird will turn out mottled.
agreed! here is some photos of mottled (black mottled) chicks/before they go throe there moult (the one where they get there mottled plumage)

okay but (at least in my experience with breeding mottled chickens) the mottling dose not come in at that age it starts at 5-6 months of age, you have some very pretty chickens
Mottling comes in way before 5-6 months this one was mottled
