MOTTLED COCHIN THREAD~!

Was hatchin eggs from my cochins which is mostly calicos... had 1 blk mottled roo in coop and currently so far his genes are VERY dominant! 40 eggs in bator... 20 hatched so far... 19 are mottled! Lol

I just finished browsing through this mottled cochin thread and think the mottled are beautiful and the people that breed them are great. This was a good thread.

I have 10 MF and possible M bantam cochin eggs in lock down, due to hatch this Fri., my first try at hatching. Haven't had real good luck with these eggs that came from Oklahoma to me, Sonora, CA. I had 5 rolling air cells that did nothing and a couple of clears and some early quitters I culled at day 14. I don't know what causes early quitters, maybe the long rough shipping. I started with 20 eggs.

Anyways, I love the cochins and want to raise some from chicks so they will be friendly. It seems like all the breeders are back east and that makes it difficult for shipping eggs. Keeping my fingers crossed to get at least one black mottled.

It looks like a black. Mottled have more yellow on them.

This is day 23 and no action since 2 hatched on day 21. I'll try to candle tonight but I'm not sure what I'm looking for.

Pull some and put them to ur ear and tap them lightly. Ya should hear peeps or movement. If ya have a stethoscope that works too.
If they get somewhat cold soon as air hits them... they died....
Hope not.

My hatch started last sunday and ended wed. So it took 4 days. But had 11 dead in shell.

Hey! I have 3 bantams chicks. The guy I bought them from didn't have the black frizzled Cochins separated from the mottled egg wise, so upon hatching they got mixed up. He claims that the two breeds were separate when mating. I know for sure I have two frizzles. Their new wing feathers curl up. But they do have a white feather in the tip of their wing. Also, The third chick's new feathers fit against it's body unlike the others. Yet it has no white feathers. So I don't know what it is. Does anyone have any advice?
