Hi! I'm curious too. My mottled Japanese hatch yellow (white) with or w/out headspot.
My mottled Cochins hatch black / white 'penguin' patterned.
I always wondered what the difference is.

from pics I've seen of both splash and mottled, splashes tend to have a lot more white, & less spots. Mottled are more black with white spots.. The farmer we bought ours from said the mottled chicks have a black spot on their heads.. I would rather have a splash... oh, heck, I'm an addict... (it's the first step you know...) I'd want a roo & hen from both kinds! LOL
