I had a friend send me an email yesterday asking if I want some mottled javas. Apparently she was given some hatching eggs by someone who is trying to help revive the breed. If she has a decent hatch, she has offered some to me (we often trade chicks when we have a hatch or purchase more than we really need). So, who has javas and what do you think of them? She is also looking for someone in our local area (southern california), who might want a breeding pair or trio if she gets a good enough hatch.

I have 2 mottled java hens and I just love them. They are decent layers with nice personalities. I would get them again.

i have black javas and positively love them...esp. the roo. i have several types of birds and besides my funky EE who never lays but is my friend, the BJs are my faves. i think they are neither submissive or aggressive (taceyperkins said that, and i'm agreeing with her!). they stick together TIGHT in my mixed flock. they are calm and very very beautiful. their eyes in particular are so amazing. they are EXCELLENT layers (at least mine are!) one of my girls has laid now for 21 days straight. they will tend to go broody moreso than other birds and are fabulous foragers...some claim they consume 50% less feed than other birds due to their foraging skills. i am hatching 22 javas from my quartet right now and selling fertile java eggs and about to start selling chicks...so i guess you can see that they have won my heart!
