Mottled Wyandottes?

Thanks guys, you all helped me with making mottled naked necks...How about the speckled gene? Also have speckled sussex and really love that color as well as my mottled javas. So want that in Naked necks in that gene too. What happenes when you cross mottled and speckled, what do you get? Thanks Frank @ www.bayshorekennel.com

Mottled & Tricolour (Speckled as in Sussex) are recognised Wyandotte varieties in many European countries.

The speckled like in Speckled Sussex is the same gene as mottled, SS are genetically Mottled Red Columbian or Millie Fluer, if you crossed black mottled NN with Speckled Sussex, the offspring should be closer to black mottled with red leakage, but the gene works the same when breeding with SS as did does as I explained it earlier. If you want Mille Fleur NNs, would be best to find a buff or red colored NN and breed it with a speckled Sussex so you can just cross one time to pick up the mottling gene from the Sussex and go from there and not have to breed back to the Sussex to get the red color, which would set you back years in the project.

I'm also looking for more Javas, I have 10 mottled Javae eggs in the bator now from TACEYPERKINS here on BYC, onthespot also has them. For anyone else interested, Rosewynd has blacks. There is another place called Birds of the north ( birds north) and they have both colors, they are not BYC members though that I know of, if you want their email address, email me and I give it to you,

WE NEED MORE JAVA BREEDERS TOO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I'm gonna give the mottled a shot. A friend of mine still has his bantam blue wyandottes so I'm gonna cross them with my bantam mottled cochins and start from there and see where it goes from there!

If you end up with some Blue or Black Mottled Bantam Wyandottes, please let me know, or heck, I'd also like to get some project eggs from the F1 cross of the mottled cochins X blue Wyandottes of you would be willing to sell me some. That should give birds closer to the cochin type with feathered leggs, but also have rose combs, that would be awesome, please let me know.

I'm pretty sure all will be solid color blue or black carrying one copy of the mottling gene. Most likely feathered feet and legs and rose combs.

When do you plan to start this project and would you be willing to sell some F1 eggs ?

Well hopefully next month when the weather gets a little better anyway. I've got to get the wyandotte bantams and sepperate them before collecting eggs so that puts me back a little. I'm also trying to get my birds npip tested through the state so I'll feel better about selling birds or eggs. Im more of a trading kind of person I like swapping so maybe we could work something out when i get started!
