Moulting with flockmate abuse?

How is she doing Bhapimama?
Thanks for asking... she is doing ok. The others don’t seem to be bothering her too much. She keeps losing feathers but she does have new ones coming in. She still is very uncoordinated and staggers when she walks. We’ve been isolating her each day long enough for her to eat some high protein treats and be able to eat the chicken feed without having to compete with the rest of the flock. Seems like it’s going to be a long road to recovery :-/

Ah that's good. Well done, it sounds like she's getting what she needs . They can surprise you with how well (and quickly) they come round once their protein is upped! I have recently had a little woman here go through a sudden, hard molt. Two weeks later she was a different bird. Hang in there :thumbsup

Thanks ... she does seem to be recovering quickly. I could see improvement just from the morning to the evening yesterday
I thought I read somewhere that it’s common for them to go through the worst moult of their lives at this age (their second fall - they were hatched in March 2017)... and that the rest of their lives their moults will be much more mild... Is that true?

Well.....that may be "common" but I do know it's not always the case. The chicken I wrote about is over five years old! I suspect there are many contributing factors which can effect each chicken's molting experience each time they molt - stresses, health etc. I also reckon it's possible that the first proper molt could be a real shock to their system = perhaps they can handle preceding molts better all else being equal.
