Mounting Stand for soda bottle waterer.

I'm sorry I don't understand your reply? Are yours the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd picture? How do you keep the bottle from leaking? Thank you.
Mine has a little black rubber gasket do I guess the 2nd one. I didn't look that closely to the pic. Sorry, I posted a picture above on this thread with mine on a water bottle. I don't do anything to keep it from leaking it just doesn't leak. Maybe the little rubber part? I puncture a small pin hole in the top of the water bottle so the water will continue to flow when the chicks peck at it

Also I didn't order mine on line I found them in my local co-op. I paid 535 for 2. I have 12 chicks on 2. As they get bigger they are only 6 weeks. I plan to buy 2 more and put them all in the bottom of a 5 gallon bucket

I'm not sure if I used an 11/32 or 21/64 drill bit. I had both push-in and threaded styles to play with. For this waterer, I used the threaded one, and didn't bother with teflon tape. It did not leak.

The reason I decided to do it this way (instead of mounting the nipple in the capand hanging upside down), was so I could leave the cap loose for airflow and not have to poke any holes into the bottle. Baby chicks make an awful mess with dust everywhere, and I figured if I had to punch an air hole, either it would clog from the dust or allow dust into the water.

For the pvc pipe waterer (done later), I used the push-in style because I broke all of the threaded ones trying to install them. I had to play around with different size drill bits because of problem with installing and leakage. In the end I managed to get leak free seals. If I were to make another pvc pipe water, I'd spring for a 3/8 x 24 tap and do a proper thread.

Thank you so much for that info and that picture!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You mentioned you did a PVC type waterer (later). Do you have a thread here about that (hopefully with instructions and pictures)?

Thank you again!!!!

Here's a photo of my setup:

The pvc pipe is held with tiewraps, and is positioned at a slight angle (the make sure the air bubbles will travel back up). I raised it up as the chicks got bigger. Leave enough slack in the flexible tubing to maneuver the bucket to dump out the water if needed.

I got the instructions from here:

I took the info to the plumbing supply store, and they helped me locate all of the pieces. I used black pond tubing because I thought the clear stuff would get full of algae.

There's lots of threads with good info on building these. Make sure the bucket is well supported. When full of water it's really heavy. I think it's a bad idea to hang it by the handle.

That's very nice. But where can I purchase just two or three of those nipples at an inexpensive price? I only have 3 chickens so I don't need much?

Thank you.
Search for these on ebay..... If you don't mind waiting on them to come from China, I just bought a lot of 5 of these on eBay and paid less than fifty cents a piece with free shipping. I can't vouch for the quality, though, because I haven't received mine yet but if there is any problem with them the seller should offer a refund. It's definitely worth checking out.

Hi Chuck,

Thanks for the post. Funny thing is that shortly after I asked the question someone else told me to look on Ebay. I purchased two sets of 5 from different sellers for under $3 shipped from China. They work GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I have about 25 of them coming and I spent less than $10 for shipping and all. At first, I was afraid of the quality but decided to take a chance on a few to test them out. I hope they do well as I believe they will prevent my ducks from wasting a LOT of feed. Happy hens and GOD bless! Chuck
