I am having trouble with mice and their droppings in the chicken food so it was recommended I get a female cat. I adopted a young female today and am wondering how to introduce her to my two grown hens and adjust to my six young layers that are still in the garage. Any suggestions? I currently have her in a large dog carrier and am thinking of putting the carrier in a separate part of the chicken run so she will get used to being around the chickens and vice versa.

That would be safe for them all, and once you do let her out just monitor their interactions for a few days before leaving them unattended. Chickens are really too big for cats to consider them prey, although chicks can be in danger from a predatory cat.

Thank you for your response.
