My husband moved the male goats over to the newly fenced in area to have them to clear the underbrush out. This morning when I went out to let the chickens free range one had been pulled through the wire. These chickens had been down there for 5 months and not a problem. We move the goats and the next week a problem.

Time to get another nanny goat to go with the little nanny so we can keep them in the chicken pen.

I want a goat also for predator protection. I starting looking into to buying a goat this past weekend and was told that you can't just get 1 goat. You need to buy at least 2 goats, that goats need a companion -
Is this true?

I've got two goats but a predator got my Turkey Tom the other night.

The goats & chickens were locked up for the night and Turkey Tom liked to sleep/roost on the roof of the stable. He would always be wandering around by the time I got down there to let everyone out in the morning - about 7:30-8:00.

I borrowed a trap from the county and will set it tonight.

My three horses are good protection too I believe! They are big and loud. They are near my coup most of the time and I haven't had any predator problems.

Yes goats need a companion. They get really lonely. Our little nanny sleeps in the shop with a TV going or she will cry. The rest of the family is her companion when she is not watching TV

. She rides in the truck with DH and follows us around in the yard.

DH put chain link fence around the pen so we'll see how it goes tonight.
