Good morning All from COLD Upstate NY
I moved Bob and the girls to their new home (will post pics when the sun comes up) yesterday. Last night they didn't go on the roosts - they huddled together in the corner. Will they figure that out? Will they figure out the new laying boxes? I'm so worried they will freeze. It's only 16 degrees right now.

They'll probably figure it out, or you could help by placing them in the roosts after dark. Use a dim flashlight/headlight pointed up so you don't light their way to leave roost.

New digs! Last night was their first night. I’m not sure if you can see the run that well - we put up thin board most of the way up on 3 sides to block the wind and snow. Do you think this is a good idea ?

Looks like a nice new home for your flock! As @aart said, they'll probably figure things out but changes (even good ones) take a while for chickens to adjust to.

They should be fine with your winter weather as long as the coop is properly ventilated and they can get out of the wind.

Yes...tho a clear material might have be better, to let some light in.
Many choices...polycarb roof panels, clear shower curtains, heavy plastic sheeting.

Roosts look a bit 'steep'...maybe....but I have not worked with ladder type roosts.
Time will tell if they can navigate them.
I'd put a bird or two up there, during the day, and see how they do.

Beautiful coop. I also have roosts just like yours. I just moved my flock into our new coop two weeks ago. I too was worried about their adjusting because half of the flock is very old and has been in their previous coop most of their lives. The new girls I knew would be fine.

The first night I just plucked each one from the old coop and set them on a roost in the new coop. There was some confusion and scuffling around. I had a light on out in the run so there was a little bit of light in the coop so they could see what they were doing. After a few minutes, they all settled in. I turned the light off and went into the house.

The next morning they came out and were very curious and checked everything out and found their food and water and explored the new run. From that point on it has been smooth sailing.

I also have some young hens just starting to lay and so far of the 3 that have started laying, 2 laid in the nest boxes right away. The third one is laying in the dirt bath, so I hope she gets the message soon and goes in the nest box. I am going to try to catch her and put her in there but I can't sit and watch for a chicken to lay an egg all day. LOL!!! But overall, they have had no problem adjusting and now it is as if they have been in the new coop forever. Now I have to teach them how to use their new grandpa's feeders. That I will save for after the holidays. Enough changes for the time being.

Love your coop! They won't freeze, don't worry.

As most will agree chickens in general don't function well with "NEW " ... I put an old wheelbarrow tub into my run this summer as a dustbathing area and for two days you would have thought I'd thrown the boogeyman in that corner - Now you can't get them out of it SO there ya go !

I'm sure they will figure it out

BTW Sweet coop , looks great

Nice coop, I'm sure they will love their new home. I'm about to move mine from the tractor coop they have been used to for a yr to a new stationary home. So I'll be seeing this how chickens deal with change thing up close and personal next wk.:pop
