One or two of my hens got in the back of our truck and layed about 25 eggs, well by the time we noticed (because this is a spare work truck) she's gone broody. How do I move her and the nest so she will continue to sit. Every time I have to move one they just won't sit anymore. We need our truck any suggestions.

Do you have a dog crate she can use? I would place her and her nest in the crate at night. Maybe by morning she will be used to the idea.

Welcome to BYC!

X2 I would move her at night back into the coop so she is not as disturbed and has a better chance of staying put in the morning. Get everything ready first....nest box, eggs moved, etc...then move the hen.

Good luck with your broody and I hope you get some spring chicks soon!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! X3, move her in the dark, and keep everything as dark and quiet as you can, I also like to use plastic dog crates in a case like this... if you don't need the truck right away, you can move the nest into the crate gradually over a few days (just put nest in bottom of crate but leave in the same place, then put top on crate the next day etc

Alright

I had that happen with our truck we use for dump runs and by the time we found it several hens had been laying for several weeks so when leaving the we had to take extra care knowing we had a box of egg's in the back .....

X 4 do it at night and when you move her make sure it is to another dark place and you have the crate covered so it is dark for her .....

OK. Here it is. I moved my hen that was sitting on her eggs in the back of our truck.
I started thinking, she's going to go crazy when we start to move her, i started thinking well they blind fold horses to calm them down...well this to works for chickens I know because I used a black Jersey glove to cover her head, it fell off her head while my daughter was holding her she went nuts she bit my finger, I got the glove back on her head immediately she stopped screaming and didnt move. So I used a stiff cardboard to scoop up the nest and eggs I put them and her in a box that was only big enough for her an the nest closed the box after about 20 min I reached in an took the glove off her head, left her in it for 1 1/2 days that night I opened the box she came out the next morning to eat then went back to the nest which is still in the box...Successful. thank you for the advice

Yay!!!!

What a story!!!! And yes, often wild raptors are blinded to get them places and to stop the biting!
