Weather is finally cooperating and I put the girls into the coop this afternoon.

I set the temperature control for the heat lamp to 55, and I can see a red glow through their new little window as I type this tonight. I'm so nervous I want to go check on them, but I'm afraid of the outdoors in the dark (I know, what a wus

)...but I'm sure the deer grow fangs and just can't face it.
So, all I can do is worry that they are OK.
I plan to open the little door for them in the morning and let them explore their run. Millie will probably be happy to be back in her element.
Can't believe how much weight she gained playing momma hen here inside the house.
Blah, blah, blah...I'll shut up now, here's some pics:

Mudhen! HAHA!!!

BOO!! I really doubt deer grow fangs.....however, I am not too fond of going out there either. Altho...I have.
I am sure they are fine.....I was the same way when I moved mine out there. All is well....in the coop.

roflmao@wagon!! I just put 4 of my chicks back outside in the garage. It got cold this past week & lost several of my 1 month olds so I brought the rest back in the house until the weather got better. Had a lamp on them but guess it wasn't enough.

LOL! Love those pics!!

Ok.. never seen a fanged deer (unless you count mule deer LOL) but I did have one run through a TINY patch of woods next to my driveway when I was outside.. in the pitch black.... I nearly fainted on the spot! And.. I hate those mysterious rustlings in the brush.. always sounds like there is a bear or something in there <LOL at MYSELF! I USED to be brave!>. If I have to go to the car or whatever after dark I let the dogs out, too! Pack sticks together, so I'm not left alone to be bait!

This reminds me of a crazy dream I had the other morning. I woke up at 4:30 to my dog barking her head off. I got up & opened the kitchen door & their was some animal in the yard & the lights reflected in it's eyes & they were green. Didn't think nothing of it & got the dog shut up & went back to bed. Then I had this dream that rabies had invaded the area & every animal was glowing a wide range of colors. Their eyes would bead down on ya! There were horses, cows, chickens, etc everywhere you looked. Then I opened the door & 5 dogs came inside the kitchen glowing & growling with their teeth showing & I was on the kitchen counter & they finally went back outside & I slammed the door shut!

DH told me it was more like a nuclear dream!

Now, watch those glowing eyes...we both live in WV ya know? hehe Now, you know why I'm the Ditz!!!

Ditz, that nuclear dream of yours was wild. What an imagination!

Of course, my fear of the dark is perfectly rational.
Lack of light causes metaphysical changes in wild animals, and it hasn't been proven yet, but I'm sure in some domesticated animals too.
Yep, I'm sure of it. When it's dark out there, all those mild mannered creatures turn into nightmares. Deer grow fangs and rabbits have giant claws, and both become carniverous.
Not all animals change completely, some are bad enough as they are. For instance, every snake in existance decides to go for a slither in my backyard when it's dark, and there's a werewolf behind every tree.
Nope. Not me, not going out there without a platoon of armed marines and mega torch power lighting....
Oh, and just in case there was any question about it...
no, I don't like camping. Go figure.

Oh I totally understand! I can face the fanged deer, the snakes, bear, coyotes, all of it. But I don't go out at night either. Spiders. They come out of the trees at night and just hang there in their webs so I'll run smack into them. They do it on the porch, too. Just to get ME! They don't seem to bother dh, just me........If I have to go out I am fully armed with a bright flashlight and my trusty can of Raid!!!

What pretty birds you got there

Love that wagon train

Is that a Buff Orp ya got? There're so sweet.
Out where I'm at is as spooky as can be. I don't know if yall have ever heard a heron before but it's worst sounding bird there is especially if ya hear it at night & don't know what it is.Then the owls doing their calls at night, during mating season.
One time I was squatted down looking at something with a flashlite & freaking armadillo came right up between my legs
ep.gif
I got scared then the armadillo got scared & jumped straight up in the air.
I don't mind the dark really, would rather be out in the country than in the city for sure.

Hi bayouchica! I would have jumped righ along with the armadillo! I've admired your pictures of the area you live in and it is beautiful! Have to admit I wouldn't poke my nose out the window in the dark where you are!

Never heard a heron cry, and from what you say it sounds weird, so I'm sure it would be creepy at night.

So true, I wouldn't want to live in a city. As it is, my country home is becoming suburbia with all the new houses and construction ....
barnie.gif
... so angry they rip apart old farms, throw up mcmansions and they sit there empty cuz no one can afford them.

and all that misplaced wildlife and .... :thun

To anwer you question, yes! That is a Buff Orpington, Goldie is her name. I actually have two. You can't see her in the picture, but her sister Buffy is in there too! She was such a fraidycat she is hiding under Millie and Goldie!
