have 1 year old chickens,getting new chicks,at what age can I start introducing new chicks with older chickens

I would introduce them asap but keep them separated but able to see each other. I use chicken mesh to divide the run/coop. I keep them separated for a few weeks and then loose them all in together under my supervision in a large area like my garden. This way, if they fight then they can run away or you are there to throw some feed down to distract them.
