Hi,

Our school has a Hova-Bator without the automatic egg turner so I brought it home since I can't turn the eggs over the weekend. My question is can I unplug the incubator and move the eggs to school on day 21 or will that kill the chicks? It is about a 30 minute drive to my classroom.

Thanks

I would not unplug it, on day 18 you could bring it to your classroom and leave it there, since after that day they should not be turned. If it is after day 18 already, then you should not unplug it.

I just put them in yesterday. So I can unplug it for 30 minutes on day 18? Thoughts on moving the eggs? I had already told my students we would do this before I realized that the school's incubator didn't come with an egg turner. Pretty silly unless a teacher is going to sleep there for 21 days (I almost do now, lol). I could transfer the eggs to a plastic drawer lined with blankets fresh from the high heat setting of my dryer and drive with the heat blowing on them all the way there.

Well, on the morning of day 18 I would take it and put it in the class room. Make sure the temperature and humidity are good for hatching 65-75% humidity, and leave them there till they hatch. I would transport them in egg cartons that you get from eggs from the store. Make sure to put pointy side of egg down in the cartons. (head is at top)

Thanks for the reply. I have a hygrometer/thermometer in the bator, I marked them with an X and an O, I'm turning them an odd number of times so they don't spend 2 nights in a row on the same side and I made sure the temperature was stable before I set them.

This is an old post but currently I’m going over the same issue, my incubator has an automatic turner but I want to take them to school since the students want to see them life not in pictures ( despite the pandemic I have 15 fifth graders on campus) please let me know your outcome, should I take the eggs to school? My driving is about 25 minutes
