Hello All!
We are moving into our new house this weekend and I am looking for some completely non-chicken advice. So naturally I came to the chicken boards

Anyway, I am looking for some natural tips to bring a calm, cozy feel into the house. Maybe some scents, herbs to have around the house, etc I know I have heard that lavender is supposed to be a calming herb, but surely there must be some others? I am trying to find ways to bring a nice, homey, calm energy into our house, so feel free to offer any tips you can think of!

As you say, lavender is good. Certain scents evoke certain feelings, so maybe google some scents like jasmine. Also, having some snacks around like scones, cake, hot choc as well as plenty of cut fresh flowers will make your new home feel cosy and relaxing. :)

I know home-stagers always talk about cooking something that smells great right before an open house - chocolate chip cookies, something cinnamony - because it makes prospective buyers think warm, fuzzy thoughts. Even if the aromas don't work, at least you'll have cookies!

I like lemon but that is more energizing than calming. There is this indian soap I like called Chandrika that has a nice scent. I have a love hate with indian stuff. I love cinnamon, vanilla, and fresh bread scents. Sometimes I boil some sliced apple and cinnamon sticks on the stove.Clove, some like it.

Lemon is my top one though.

Hops and lavender filled pillow packs are calming.

Congrats on the home.

Oh hey I forgot that if you paint add a scent to the paint. Besides the calming colors you choose there will be that nice scent like vanilla or whatever. Also, put a few drops of oil on light bulbs if they are the old kind that heat up. I add oil drops or a fabric softener sheet to the vaccum too.

We have some brand new neighbors who just bought the house next door. They bought some gorgeous hanging baskets for the porch, fall flowers/grasses in the beds and a fall wreath hanging on the front door. Oh yeah, and some pumpkins! It looks so inviting now.
