My chicks are a little over four weeks and getting crowded. I'm in Wisconsin and it's still getting down into the 20/30s at night. Can I move them into the coop earlier then six weeks if I provide a heat lamp?

Sure I brood in the coop too. Sometimes garage, sometimes coop.

Just check your temps under the light after it turns cold. Practice good fire safety too and hang your lamp at least two ways not including the clamp- I use metal wire. Use a ceramic socket not a plastic one. Make sure lamp will withstand flying chickens hitting it. They will try everything- try to perch on the cord, perch on the heat lamp guard, etc.

Make sure lamp is far enough away from flammables. Heat lamp bulb with explode if spattered with rain.

Thanks for all the advice. The only safe place in my house for the brooder was the bathroom and there is limited space so can't build a bigger brooder. They will be happy to have some more space to stretch out.
