moving laying hens

I have read a lot of people that buy hens that have already been laying say that they dont get eggs for a while after they first get them. My mother in law bought 7 hens that were laying and we were getting eggs the next day. Should I consider myself lucky, or are my chickens just wierd?

Or -- those eggs were on their way down the tunnel, and the flock may take a vacation after laying a few.
