Moving. Not sure what to do with my hen.

MissChick, I've never felt the need to ask any kind of question on a board before. So I must have been very concerned about the welfare of my elder hen. A three hour trip for an over six year old hen seemed very stressful for her.
Your response was so snarky and really unhelpful.
Did you read it before you sent it? Maybe through another's eyes. I'm sure you've been concerned over a pet before. How would you like it if someone talked to you like that? So many other gave such good advice and you were just hurtful.
I wish you the best Miss Chick. I wish you would treat others kinder. Even on the internet.
I am positive @MissChick@dee meant no malice. Many on here like myself are passionate about our birds, and animals in general. Even the thought of a bird being dumped makes our blood boil, as it may make yours too. You already mentioned in your first post that you knew it was going to result in death, and wouldn't do it. I'll admit when you mentioned releasing it in your initial post, it got my hackles up a bit, but I read the other responses and saw that you were compassionate, and seeking alternatives.
She was possibly frustrated, as as are a lot of us, at the amount of unwanted pets "disposed" of by their owners. I have 4 drakes, 2. from the pound, and 2 from CL. Yeah I'd love eggs, and to not have to split them up all summer, but drakes are harder to get rid of, and frequently get dumped. (Plus I like free stuff) Girls like your hen are much easier to rehome, which I think added to Miss chicks annoyance.
We ALL hope your move goes well, and please keep us updated (we love pictures too) and I forget if it was mentioned, but she'd probably love to have a gal pal to hang out with at some point.
Also make sure she's in a cage or a box with holes, so she doesn't make you crash your car if she panics!
Maybe a short trip in the car, before the long might help her get accustom to it.
Apologies for the wall of text, and Good Luck with your move!

Forgive me if I don’t get the warm fuzzies when someone talks about dumping a animal as a option to a inconvenience. As adults we should be able to problem solve. There are many people who read these posts who never look at the big picture. Sorry you didn’t get a hand holding from me. Having animals dumped on YOU puts all the problems and guilt on you. Should I take this animal in? Poor animal why would someone just leave it. They don’t have a problem making their problems yours. Do they knock in the door and ask? Nope...why? Because they don’t want to know the answer.
And another poster mentioned how they like free “stuff” hum...many people do not know or care how introducing new birds affect a flock. Parasites are Free stuff too...along with viruses Yay!
Have I been “concerned” over a pet before? I’m concerned every single day.
You mentioned dumping...you got a response. I’m not being unkind. It’s reality. As adults we should take the word “dumping” out of our vocabulary. In my book it’s never a responsible option.

My "free stuff" comment was a bit of a joke. I went out and conciously obtained my birds I'm not encouraging people to leave me their unwanted drakes. Just making the point that male birds are harder to rehome females. You're right. Dumping anything on anyone is never a good idea.

Thank you for your thoughtful response. :)

I moved my hen 1500 miles to my new place. She actually enjoyed the car ride. To get her used to being in a car, drive her around short distances before you actually move. It’ll help the longer drive be less stressful!

:goodpost:

Taking her on some shorter car rides will get her use to it. My chicken didn't like the car ride the first time, but after taking her on a few more now she begs to go with me whenever I get into my car.
I hope all goes well with your move.

P.S. for future knowledge any mention of releasing a chicken, duck, etc. is gonna cause l stir on here.

She made it! No drama what so ever. Thanks again all! <3
