Moving outdoors temp minimum?

At that age and in an outdoor setup I'm surprised that they're using the heat at all.

I only have a couple experiences with cold-season chicks, but both times as soon as they had feathers they started sleeping in the far corner away from the heat instead of in the warm place.
They ever cold they run around. And at night they arr not in direct heat the heat lamp is hanging at the highest point in the coop which is about 3-4 ft right now.

I never try to warm more than a spot large enough for the chicks to collect together loosely -- maybe 2 feet in diameter?

I do use different wattage bulbs to control the temperature under the lamp. Getting used to my new brooder plate now.

I have a brooder plate but it doesnt work well in cold temps like we are having.

That's why mine are on dual heat right now too. :D

I've got the Big Red Bulb set to warm the area where the brooder plate is and the plate to actually keep the babies (Easter hatch), warm.

This weather has been WARM.

The 6-week old chicks from the March hatch are in the main coop taking it all in stride.

Mine were without heat all day yesterday then i turned i back on at night they were chirping very loudly. But they were outside the coop for a few hours(And didnt want to go back in).
