I moved part of my chickens to a new coop today. I am wanting to get them sorted out and see who is laying and who isn't. I have 20 hens and am only averaging 8 or 9 eggs. Anyway, my question is: How do I manage this situation? I free range, but I figure I will need to keep these ones penned for a few days, but when I do turn them out-how am I going to deal with the other hens that want to move in too. Am I just going to have to alternate days or what? HELP!!!

When I move my chickens from one coop to another, depending on how long they've been with me, I leave them in from 2 to 6 days. After that, a few get confused about where to go up at night -- I just sort them out. Have you considered that the ones that "aren't" laying might be laying somewhere while they're free ranging? Or that some of your birds might not be laying every day?
