Moving Single Chick to Brooder?

I decided to "help" and did 8 eggs... so so sad. All of them but one were BARELY developed. In fact it looked like 90% yolk.
The one that was developed was definately dead, looked totally developed but dead. I don't understand what I did wrong. the developed one was a Maran. I can't hear cheeps against my ear at all.... I recandled, what a disappointment, I can't see anything moving; I wonder how I got two live chicks and 34 bad eggs.

The two chicks that did hatch are doing wonderful - I know my temps were good as was the humidity. My hubby is telling me to wait til 30 days - my fear is egg-splosions inside my bator. Gross is all I can think of.

I think I will try to "help" the remaining ones and see whats up - at least I won't be waiting and waiting for more disappointment.

Sorry for your loss, that sounds like my first hatch. I'm on my 2nd and had one hatch that was under developed, 2 that quit about day 18 and so far 1 hatch completely healthy and I have 10 more eggs to go :( I'm on day 22.

I checked all the remaining eggs, candled first then picked a small hole and enlarged it as I went... all of them were barely even developed (like pis of day 10) all but one... it looked almost finished but clearly dead. So sad.... so, I guess two chicks out of 36 is what I get this time.

Any suggestions as to what might have gone wrong? I am so discouraged....

AWWE so sorry to hear that, sounds like they just became quitters, what is the temp and humdity at? Temp should be around 99 to 101 and humidity I usually keep mine at 50-55 until the last 3 days then boost that thing up to 60-65..

my temp was at 100.0, varied to 99.5 -100.8 and humidity at 58 to 60... it sounds like they just quit to me too, except the buffs., they were all yolk but three. myst have been not fertile.

Good luck on your hatch! It's so hard!

Humm, I hope you meant that's what is was at lock down and not throughout the entire 21 days. because I would have lowered the humidity the first 18 days down to 50-55. But sometimes that happens they just quit on you. I'm having a hard time as well, I can't get my showgirls to even show a sign of life. At least you are showing something..

oops, sorry, I should have said at lock down, thats what I meant.
I'm not going to give up though, I really want a good hatch - its been years since I had chickens and I miss it so so badly. Raising grandchildren now, getting back to a farm lifestyle is wonderful. The kids will love chickens. My chickens have always been pretty social, I guess it makes me want them more and more!

Awwe it is fun but can get addicting, your best bet is to hatch your own, there's so many problems, you can run into when receiving shipped eggs. The Post Office doesn't seem to care and you end up with scrambled, loose air cells, cracked or broken eggs. I have 10 times better luck with my own then with shipped. It's a great feeling to know that you made it happen once they do hatch.... Good Luck with your Future Hatchings...
