Hello Fellow Chicken Keepers,
We need to move our 8'x16' chicken coop/run about 50 feet from where it is now (to make room for an addition on our human house - ha ha). The builders said they'd move it for us, but want us to remove our 12 hens for 2 hours, while they slide the coop across the yard. Any ideas how to house 12 chickens for 2 hours? I was thinking large dog crates could be a temporary solution? Open to your suggestions. Thanks!

If you'll be there supervising, why not just buy poultry wire and those cheap fence posts and put them in there somewhere nearby around the yard?

I would just make a temporary pen somewhere out of the way. some chicken wire, stakes and bird netting over the top should be good enough for very short term use.

These are both good ideas!

I'd check with the neighbors and see who has some folding metal kennels and screw together plastic crates for medium sized and large dogs.

Two hours isn't all that long for the chickens to be crowded.

Think of the opportunity you're going to get to hose everything down and get rid of dust and cobwebs!!! I'd bake those builders a cake or something!

We use to move a coop around, not quite as big as yours, and left the birds inside. This was many years ago and now the coop is in a permanent place with other coops.

The coop we used to move around pulling it with a tractor, is the taller one.
