Hi,
This is the first time I have posted. I have 5 19 1/2 week old pullets (2 BO, 1BA, 1 red star and 1 speckled sussex). None have started laying yet but, are showing signs it should be soon. This week they have taken to moving the fake eggs I placed in the nesting boxes out. Is this a good sign they will lay soon?

Thanks!

Probably they are spending some time "practicing" in the nesting boxes, and they are just scootching the fake eggs out with their movements. It shouldn't be long now!

I would leave them, my girls have been laying since dec/jan and if I take the fake eggs out of the nest they freak out and act like they don't have anywhere to lay because there is no egg to direct them

... I know silly girls, they will actually wait until someone lays and then they all want to lay in the same spot.

I used those marble fake eggs because I had a collection of them, and they are so heavy that if I get a hen that can move them, I will enter her in a weight-lifting contest.

Once they got started laying, I removed the marble eggs.

I keep moving the eggs back into the nesting boxes and today I watched my red star take her beak and move it right back out again. I am hoping she is just making a nice nest for herself to lay!
