Moving to coop

Hey all thank you on advanced for your help!

Here is my question and I apologize if this is in the wrong category.

I am in the process of moving my birds into their permanent coop from the brooder. I have read that they should stay on the coop for 3 or so days so they learn the coop is now home.

My coop is not very big, I am worried about fitting the food and water in there with all the birds.

Is leaving them in the coop a hard a fast rule? I would like them to eventually go into the coop at night by themselves.

To be honest I am pretty stressed out I just don’t know what to do.

Also, am I going to close off the nesting boxes? Which in that case makes the coop even smaller really.

Any help or advice is appreciated.

Can you please post pictures of your coop setup?
Do you have an attached run?
Locking birds into a coop is to "home" them and that is generally applicable only to newly acquired adult birds.
The chicks should be confined to their "setup" which includes the coop and run.

I hope you didn't get a tiny little prefab.

I did get a prefab but it is bigger than most. My husband plans to use this for now until we can build our own.

Good luck with your new chickens! I am new to chicks myself and we are in the process of deciding on our coop build. It sounds like you are just a little ahead of me. We are deciding whether or not to start them in a bigger prefab to give us a tad more build/decision time or if we should just quickly build. Of course both have pros and cons... if you like your prefab coop, even though it’s a temp (can still be used later as a quarantine bay or something), let me know what company you used, as I’m still looking at prefabs if we go that temporary route. Thank you so much! Yea with the pre fabs there’s still a lot of reinforcements that need to be done and adjustments but it’s a good starter for us. I have a large shed that I want to turn into their coop eventually and build a run off that but for now this will have to do.

You won't regret that. I converted a shed into my coop and attached a large predator proof run to it and it makes keeping chickens SO easy and enjoyable.
