My name is Mary, I live in Alabama, with my 2 kids, husband, 1 dog, 1 fish, 5 cats, and 12 chickens. My chickens are Isa Browns except for 1 Red Cochin named Speedy, and one Red Ranger named Red. Ive owned chickens for 2 years. I live in the city now but my neighbors are ok with it. I love my chickens and the kids love them as well. We want to move back to Oklahoma soon and I'm only familiar with Eastern Oklahoma but we are needing to move closer to Tinker. My biggest concern is moving to an area that doesn't allow chickens. Looking to move near Oklahoma City. Can any one tell me a good location that isn't quite in the city that you can keep chickens so I can look for a house in that area? I can't wait to move back to my home state, but I dont want to give up my chickens nor does my husband want to spend and 1.5 driving to and from work.

Greetings and welcome to BYC Mary! So glad you joined us. Here's a link to the laws and ordinances section. I don't know if there's anything specific to where you're interested in, but you can check. https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/category/laws.13/
There's a wealth of info, knowledge and experience shared in the multitude of threads. Browse around and see what interesting stuff you can find. By all means post away when the desire strikes you, especially if you have questions (provide as much detail/info as possible and pictures truly help)... With all the great folks here, generally someone will respond in no time at all. Please make yourself at home!

Oh, if you haven't done so already, PLEASE put at least your general location in your profile. It could be very important if/when you ask for or offer help or advice. You know, climate issues and such. Old folks like me :old will never remember & look there first. To add it, mouse hover over Account top right and a drop down will appear. Click on Personal Details and scan down. You'll see the spot for Location. Then go to the bottom and save changes. Thanks! Hope you enjoy the site!

Welcome to backyard chickens!

I hope you find a nice place that allows chickens!

G’Day from down under Mary :frow Welcome!

Best wishes with the move! We too moved recently, just over 1,600kms [or 990 miles]. I also did not want to give up my girls and they got to fly to their new home in the cargo bay of a jumbo, right next to our cats. They actually coped better with the move than the cats did! :p

Anyways, I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)
