So, we're moving from North Carolina to Indianapolis in a few months. We're not yet sure if we'll be able to take our 6 hens with us (depends on where we end up finding a house). But if we can keep them, we still have to figure out how to get them there. It's only about a 10 hour drive but we'll have to split that across two days because a member of our family is not able to sit in the car for more than 6 hours straight. We'd be going in the middle of August most likely, so we couldn't leave them in the car overnight and we probably wouldn't be allowed to take them into a hotel room. So, does anyone have any ideas for what we could do?

what temp would it be over night? they would need good ventilation. chickens do travel well but you need to make sure they have adequate ventilation, food and water and they cannot be to squished in . if you had a dog crate ( full size ) then you could put them in that over night. the other option is to get them moved by a company that moves animals like a pet bus service

Well, they would be in dog crates. We have 2 carriers built for medium sized dogs so 3 chickens could fit comfortably in each. But they would be in the car. And I'm sure it wouldn't be ok to leave them overnight in a car in a parking lot in the middle of August (it would probably be at least 80 degrees, if not hotter).

if its going to be hot and they are safe then maybe you could sit them outside your door and just cover them with a blanket. alternatively you could find a place that allows pets/ dogs and ask to keep them in the crates in the bathroom?
