You're saying Itunes took his songs off his device and told him to buy it back?? Sounds like there's something more to that... a glitch, or something. I'm sure a phone call would have straightened that out. I have had trouble with songs here and there and they have excellent customer service and tech support.

no glitch,
if music on your computer doesnt have their (itunes) digital stamp on it i tunes assumes you stole it and they lock it down until you buy it from them. my buddy used the feature on his computer where you can go back hrs or days, restored his music, and uninstalled the itunes software. he told his son to put that junk on his own computer, and it did the same thing on his son's computer.

Okay, but that's a logical explanation, that's not them just stealing it. How are they supposed to know he back-dated his computer? I still think he could have called and got it sorted out.

Archos 5 Internet Media tablets are nice. Fairly user friendly, kind of cute, can play most file types, and they have a lot of storage space. Unless you're one of the world's most insane music collectors, it'll hold your entire collection with room to spare.

it kind of IS them stealing it. I can copy my CD onto my computer; I own it and have the legal right to copy it for my own use. If I load Itunes onto my computer, their software will "lockdown" the music that I own, trying to force me to re-buy it from them. There is no way around it; almost any type of soundfile, no matter what it is (recording of your kids telling jokes for example) itunes will lock.

Sorry no. I can not believe that at all. Having used itunes and knowing the workings of it the music would still be playable and still be function. It well not lock your music! MP4 are apples protected songs. Itunes still can play MP3!

I have a ton of music on my itunes. Several days worth...about 49 gigs. That's a lot of audio. I promise I didn't buy it all from iTunes but I'm able to access all of it and manipulate it as I need to.

That's just not true. I mean, I'm not saying you're lying, but something odd is happening because I have been using Itunes for years. They have an mp4 format, but all of my mp3's are playable on itunes and do NOT get locked in any way. I also play audiobooks and all kinds of files and they don't get locked at all.
