Wow. A tricky batch of chicks to sort out!

Well I've heard MPC uses Meyer Hatchery--not sure if that's true or not--but I'm looking in their catalog for clues.

My guesses from your last post...based on the birds available from Meyer's...
#1. German Spitzhauben (Appenzeller). Second guess would be Silver laced Polish.
#2. Welsummer? If you have different sizes of chipmunk chicks I would say the smaller ones are probably Brown Leghorn and the larger ones are Welsummer. Meyer also has Golden Phoenix which look like chipmunks as chicks and it looks like they have darker legs...?
#3. Buff Chantecler.
#4. I dunno.....Columbian Wyandotte? Silver Laced Wyandotte?

Hmmm...are you SURE you ordered the Rainbow Assortment? I think you may have got the Rare Egg Layer Assortment...lol!

Wow, cwhit590 I think you are GREAT!!!! I am convinced that #1 is the German Spitzhauben. The others I agree are debatable. On #2 the legs are what throw me off, I know that hatchery birds can have off colored legs and are not necessarily true to breed, but I would have never figured I would have this much trouble detecting a breed. The Buff Chantecler I believe is also right. #4 Well it is definitely poorly colored right now, but I believe it is some sort of Wyandotte. Thanks for your help.

The funny colored one with the crest is a Spitzhauben! That's what mine looked like also, and no one on here could figure out what they were. I love my Spitzhaubens, they're friendly and funny.

I think the next chick is a brown leghorn because see how wide the black stripe is along the eye? Welsummers have a thinner stripe. You'll be able to tell for sure once it grows earlobes. The Welsummers have red earlobes and the brown leghorns have white earlobes.

No clue about the third chick.

Maybe the fourth chick is a Hamburg? I'm not certain about that either, just a guess.

I'll look for a few pictures of mine as chicks to compare!

Did your Polish feather out as black or blue? Mine looked black as chicks but they feathered out blue. And yes there are white crested white polish!

Brown Leghorn:

For comparison, these are Welsummers. They all turned out to be roosters.

See how the eye stripe looks so different than the Leghorn chicks?

Here they are feathered out but still kind of ugly:

They're beautiful now though, don't worry.

Though they are INSANE and flighty.

That's cool. I see that your Brown Leghorn has YELLOW legs. I have 3 with yellow legs and 5 with peach legs. Could this be an indicator as a different breed. The yellow legged ones have a darker brown/black stripe down the back and the peach legged ones have a more reddish brown stripe. I know pictures are hard to tell. It's something you have to see in person. But they all have a Black spot on their beak like your pictures of the older Leghorns.

Maybe the peach legs are Welsummers! Mine had more peach looking legs, you can kind of tell in this picture...

The leghorn chicks had legs so bright you could use them to direct traffic.

Andora,
Yup, I think you're right. It is probably a spitzhauben. I have only hatched three of them and didn't really remember what they looked like.
Is the darker chick grown now? It really looks like silver laced Polish.
